Benefits of Herb-Infused Oils for the Body, Mind & Spirit

Your skin is made up of oils. Despite what their name might imply, oils won’t leave you oily. They are packed with good-for-you ingredients such as polyphenols, fatty acids, and antioxidants, to help reduce inflammation and give skin a glow. With the addition of therapeutic plants and herbs, these oils offer added benefits to your body. Then come the essential oils. When inhaled or applied to the skin, these help stimulate your sense of smell or have medicinal effects when absorbed. Select a combination(s) based on your individual needs.

How it All Starts

Natural oil based products are first infused with selected herbs, meaning the base oil has been placed in the sunlight to draw out the therapeutic benefits of each herb for at least 7 days (most are around 14 to 21 days). I use both almond and jojoba oils for the base. Almond oil is a mild and soothing oil beneficial for both the skin and hair. This is partly thanks to its emollient properties, meaning it helps prevent water loss from the skin. The moisturizing effects of almond oil may be especially helpful for people who have dry or sensitive skin.

Jojoba oil is a humectant. This means that it works to attract water to the top layer of the skin, helping to keep the skin hydrated. This may help prevent bacterial infections, acne, and dandruff from forming. It also contains natural forms of vitamin E. This vitamin works with your skin as an antioxidant and these antioxidants may help your body produce collagen.

Roll-On Oil Blend

The roll-on application option is good to put in your purse, bag or pocket to take with you on the go. Each blend is a little different in the herbs that are used and the essential oils that are added

Use the roller on your pressure point areas of the body (behind the ears or on the temples, between your thumb and forefinger or inside of the wrist) plus your joints. Some people also apply these below the nose or on the neck area. Really these can be used wherever you see a benefit. As you will see, some offer pain relief – so use the roll on any area of the body that it causing you pain.

Oil Dropper Option

These oils are a great lotion replacement to nourish your skin, especially before or after bathing or before bed. Another idea is to add a few full droppers to bath water. Rub oil on the bottom of your feet to better internalize the therapeutic benefits. Also, massage a few drops of oil in and around the navel for same internal benefits.

All blends have calming benefits and can be used before bedtime – or at anytime during the day.

The Blends

Whether you need to refresh, relax or relieve there is a ‘re’ combination just right for you. Here is an ingredient list and a short description of the benefits of each herb or oil.

Revive and Relieve – both have peppermint and frankincense which have pain relief benefits. Each have a calming but uplifting effect. Relieve is infused with mint, rosemary and lavender before the addition of the peppermint, frankincense, lemongrass, bergamot and cinnamon essential oils. Revive is a simpler blend with a marigold base with the addition of lemongrass, frankincense and peppermint.

Relax and Rest – both help to help calm the nervous system and are great to use before bedtime. Relax is infused with lavender flowers. Then rose, lavender with frankincense and myrrh. Rest includes the addition of lavender, cedarwood and chamomile essential oils.

Realign & Restore – uses a rosemary and geranium infusion. Restore then includes pine, cardamom, lavender and orange. Realign adds pine and rose – a very light combination.

Recover – the calendula (marigold) infusion is a great anti-inflammatory. Then many essential oils are added: myrrh, orange, lavender, rose & chamomile.

Oil-Based Salve

Receive the benefit of the herb-infused oils in more of a lotion form. The mango butter salve promotes skin healing and protection. Massage the nutrients into your skin, with the intention to sooth sore muscles or diminish inflammation of the skin or joints. Calendula, lavender and lemon verbena are infused with the oil using the sun's rays or on the stove using very low heat. Mango butter. beeswax and essential oils are added to create the soft and extra-nourishing form.
